Prayer Day 10

Praying that the Light of the Gospel will shine (Read Isaiah 42:1-9)

“I have given you as a covenant to the people, a light to the nations, to open the eyes that are blind, to bring out the prisoners from the dungeon, from the prison those who sit in darkness." (Isaiah 42:6-7)

A child's fear of the dark is deeply rooted in the human psyche. The dangers that have surrounded human beings from the earliest times were amplified by the absence of light. Without light, the apparent safety of a cave could erupt with unexpected dangers lurking in the shadows. Darkness equals anxiety and fear.

The Bible is full of the imagery of light and dark, and in the work of creation the Lord made the two great lights and 'saw that it was good.' It is in John's Gospel that we most often find images of light - that light that shines in spiritual darkness. The tragedy was that people seem to prefer the darkness, while the good news was that the true light has dawned for all.

We are called to be people who believe and walk in the light. After all, Jesus is the light of the world. He calls us to be a city on a hill that cannot be hidden. We are to be a beacon of light showing, not only God's people but to all the world, the saving purposes of Jesus.

Let us pray that Christ’s Light will shine in various aspects of our community.
