DAY 17 | FEBRUARY 28, 2023
Mark 4: 21-25
He said to them, “Do you bring in a lamp to put it under a bowl or a bed? Instead, don’t you put it on its stand? For whatever is hidden is meant to be disclosed, and whatever is concealed is meant to be brought out into the open. If anyone has ears to hear, let them hear.”'
“Consider carefully what you hear,” he continued. “With the measure you use, it will be measured to you—and even more. Whoever has will be given more; whoever does not have, even what they have will be taken from them.”
REFLECTION
This passage contains a series of sayings by Jesus, encouraging his followers to pay attention to the message of the gospel and to share it with others. Jesus uses metaphors of a lamp and a measure to illustrate the importance of hearing and responding to his teachings.
In the first saying, Jesus tells his disciples that they should not hide the light of the gospel but instead let it shine for all to see. Just as a lamp is not meant to be hidden under a basket but to give light to everyone in the room, so too should the message of the gospel be shared openly and freely.
In the second saying, Jesus encourages his followers to listen carefully to his teachings, to be receptive to his message, and to take it to heart. He emphasizes that the measure they use to listen to him will determine the measure they receive from God.
These sayings are a call to action for all believers to actively share the good news of the gospel with those around them. We are called to be a light in a dark world, sharing the love of Christ and his message of salvation with everyone we meet. We are also called to be attentive and receptive to the teachings of Jesus, letting his words guide our thoughts and actions.
As we reflect on these verses, let us consider how we can be a light to others and how we can actively listen to and respond to the message of the gospel. Let us be intentional in our efforts to share the love of Christ with those around us and to deepen our understanding and commitment to his teachings. May we be faithful stewards of the gospel message, letting it shine brightly in our lives and in the lives of those around us.
