DAY 19 | MARCH 2, 2023
Mark 4: 35-41
That day when evening came, he said to his disciples, “Let us go over to the other side.” 3Leaving the crowd behind, they took him along, just as he was, in the boat. There were also other boats with him. A furious squall came up, and the waves broke over the boat, so that it was nearly swamped. Jesus was in the stern, sleeping on a cushion. The disciples woke him and said to him, “Teacher, don’t you care if we drown?”
He got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, “Quiet! Be still!” Then the wind died down and it was completely calm.
He said to his disciples, “Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?”
They were terrified and asked each other, “Who is this? Even the wind and the waves obey him!”
REFLECTION
Jesus and his disciples are caught in a storm while crossing the Sea of Galilee. The disciples are filled with fear as the waves crash against the boat, and they fear for their lives. Jesus is sleeping peacefully in the back of the boat when the disciples wake him up, begging him to save them.
Jesus responds by rebuking the wind and the waves and calming the storm. He then turns to his disciples and asks them why they are so afraid and why they have so little faith.
This story teaches us a powerful lesson about fear and faith. The disciples were consumed by fear, even though they were in the presence of Jesus, the Son of God. They allowed their fear to overwhelm them, forgetting that Jesus had the power to calm the storm.
Similarly, we often allow fear to consume us in our lives. We fear the unknown, the future, and the challenges we may face. But as believers, we must remember that we are in the presence of Jesus, and he has the power to calm the storms in our lives.
We must also have faith that God is in control, even in the midst of our fear. We can trust that He will provide for us, protect us, and guide us through whatever challenges we may face.
So let us not be consumed by fear, but instead, let us have faith that God is with us, and he has the power to calm the storms in our lives. Let us trust in his provision, protection, and guidance, even when we cannot see the way forward. As we lean on him in faith, we will find peace in the midst of life's storms.
