DAY TWENTY NINE | Acts 17: 16-34
Imagine walking through an art gallery filled with magnificent sculptures. Each piece tells a story, each bearing the mark of its creator. Yet, amidst these, stands an enigmatic sculpture labeled, “To an Unknown Artist.” Acts 17:16-34 evokes a similar setting, with Paul addressing the Athenians amidst their altars, particularly one “To an Unknown God.”
As Paul traverses Athens, his spirit is provoked by the city’s idols. Standing in the Areopagus, he engages with the Athenian culture, using their altar to the unknown god as a starting point. He doesn’t scorn or belittle their beliefs but introduces them to the 'Unknown Sculptor' – the Creator of the universe.
Paul paints a vivid picture of this God – not confined to temples, not served by human hands, but the Giver of life, breath, and all things. He speaks of a God who, while being the ultimate Sculptor of the universe, desires a personal relationship with His creation.
The reactions are varied – some mock, others wish to hear more, and a few believe. Such is often the outcome when we introduce others to the ‘Unknown Sculptor’.
Today, as we navigate our world filled with varying beliefs and altars, let’s seize opportunities to introduce others to the true Sculptor of their souls. Let’s remember that our role isn’t to condemn, but to lovingly guide others from the unknown to a personal, transformative encounter with the living God. And in our own moments of uncertainty or doubt, may we always turn to the Sculptor, seeking His handiwork in our lives.
