READING:
Joshua 1: 1-9, 5:13 - 6:20
KEY VERSE:
When the trumpets sounded, the army shouted, and at the sound of the trumpet, when the men gave a loud shout, the wall collapsed; so everyone charged straight in, and they took the city.
REFLECTION:
After Moses dies, God appoints Joshua to be the new leader of Israel. Joshua is to bring the people to the land God had promised them. The first city they arrive at is Jericho and God gives them instructions on how to conquer the city. When they listen to God’s commands precisely, the walls fall down. With the defeat of Jericho God reminds the Israelites that whoever the leader is, God is still in charge.
PRAYER:
Lord, Joshua’s horn proclaimed Your power and the walls came tumbling down. When you give us instructions, may we follow them precisely as we trust in You. Help us to tear down the walls that keep us separated from You. Amen.
