Dear Church Family,
My family and I are in Maryland for a few days to attend the funeral of my wife's aunt. I've been thinking of a verse from Isaiah, "Behold, I am doing a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it? I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert.”
It has been in my spirit because I have been doing new things from the moment I arrived. For the first time in my life, I got to experience catching crabs on the Severne River. In addition, I got to eat Maryland-style crab cakes. And I've been talking to my wife's family about how to navigate a new life without their family member.
"Do you not perceive it?" the Scripture asks. God is working around us all the time. Sometimes we perceive God's work around us, usually when the new experience is positive like a new food or a beautiful location. It is harder to perceive God's work when the change is more painful, like the loss of a loved one.
The promise I hold onto, even when I don't understand it, is "God will make a way." Don Moen penned these words, "God will make a way, where there seems to be no way. He works in ways we cannot see. He will make a way for me." My prayer is that in the new things, easy or hard, you may see God working and trust he will always make a way.
